The Collaborator and His Family

Ruthie Shatz, Adi Barash

 Israel / USA / France / Canada / 2011 / 84 min

The Collaborator and His Family is a film about a Palestinian family torn apart by espionage in the difficult climate of Israeli occupation. For two years, filmmakers Shatz and Barash documented the rahim family who are forced to live in a rundown neighborhood in Tel-Aviv as a result of Ibrahim having to leave Palestine because of fears for his life for collaborating with Israeli authorities. Ibrahim’s wife and children struggle daily to cope and assimilate to Israeli society while being forgotten by the very authorities who exploited them. Shot in observational style, the film presents audiences with a unique perspective of the effects of Israeli occupation. The result is a hard-hitting, emotional and at times brutal film portraying a difficult family situation in difficult times.
